The wind uses her full name. Nobody else does.

This is June Ellery Wilde, the muse of Wheat + Wind, the Field Wanderer. Amy built her by hand from public-domain pieces: June herself, from an 1880s chromolithograph by the American painter Rosina Emmet; a butterfly from a German book of rare butterflies from beyond Europe, printed in Regensburg in the 1850s and '60s; and a page of a Nebraska farm paper from January 7, 1922, with an article titled "The Farmer's Future." The field went to prairie-sky blue. June stayed in color, and so did the hay she's sitting on.

So did one butterfly, up in the empty sky. She followed one like it for three fields once and found a house that isn't there. She knocked. Nobody answered. She has not stopped thinking about it.
