Rue Royale had a conservatory that didn't operate on anyone else's schedule. The flowers grew in the wrong seasons. The doors opened at hours that didn't match the clock. Vivienne Noelle Delacroix was always out before the music started — which in her world meant she was always exactly on time.
This is her portrait. Watercolor and ink, a flower crown in dusty mauve, sage, and blue, eyes closed. She is listening for something just beyond the frame. She will not explain herself, and she does not need to.
