This is Eloise Beauregard Whitmore, the muse of Bloom + Bourbon. The original was a Better Homes and Gardens cover from February 1926, painted by C. J. Monro. Amy kept Eloise and let Whitmore House go to teal ink: the arched gate with its heart cut out, the leaves overhead, a page of South Carolina newsprint laid underneath like a guest list nobody else is allowed to read. Eloise stayed in color. Coral parasol, blush silk, ribbons she tied herself.
Faulkner is a step ahead of her, half in the world and half out of it. He notices everything. He has never once been asked to repeat it.
There is one more thing in the picture. Nobody mentions it.

A note when a new guest arrives. Eloise tells you who's coming, who's already at the table, and what they're bringing with them.
