Continue ShoppingReport No. 001. July 14, 1936, 3:20 in the afternoon. W. Ashby sighted smoke on the east ridge, six miles out, and sent a patrol. No fire was found. At dusk, Ashby checked again and wrote it down: still rising, nothing there. The first record in the drawer at Fenwick Lookout — and, as far as anyone can tell, the beginning of a fire that has never quite gone out.
One of the eight Fenwick Lookout Records, 1936 to the present. Hang them in date order and they read like a found archive.
