This is Bea, the muse of Cider + Cedar. She started as a Good Housekeeping cover from October 1905, painted by an artist who signed only “K.A.” and has not been identified since. Amy kept Bea and let the woods go to cedar-green ink: the canopy, the bark she leans against, the valley behind her, a page of Vermont newsprint laid underneath. Bea stayed in color, along with the branches in her arms and a few leaves that are still falling. They came with her.
She is looking at you. She does not look away first.
She makes excellent apple jam. Sunset Cedar, put up in October, from trees nobody outside the valley has heard of. She may play the violin. There is less agreement on that part.

A note when a new guest arrives. Eloise tells you who's coming, who's already at the table, and what they're bringing with them.
