The midnight orchid is the collection's entry piece — cream ground, classic form, the specimen label giving it its particular quality of being both a botanical document and something more. If you're new to Vivienne's world, this is often where people start. If you already know the collection, this is the one that fills in the suite.
There is a version of the orchid that exists in every florist's window. This is not that version. This one was observed at 1:03 AM, noted on cream ground with the care of someone who understood she was documenting something most people never stay awake to see.
